Cadbury Protest Video -

Cadbury Chocolate company
simpletons Mr. Tim Bishop, Mr. Phil
Rumbol, and Mr. Paul Epworth want to
tell us the "Tribal Head" gorilla video is
not disrespetful of Ghanaians and
Africans. We disagree. We reject their
attempt to define what is culturally
acceptable to Ghanaian nationals.   By
that ad, Cadbury is saying Gorrillas and
Ghanaians / Africans have the same
personality. The "advert" is a cheap,
thrashy video. Ghanaians do not have
to allow themselves and their "culture"
to be degraded just so Cadbury can
"go Fair Trade."
We are confident that the UK-based
Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)
will agree with us after they've had a
chance to review the video and our
case in opposition. Prof Lungu is saying
that Cadbury ought to have known
better.
The ASA ought to ask why a product
produced in the Ghanaian hinterlands,
sold on the global marketplace, brings in
billions of dollars to Cadbury, is
promoted entirely using filthy, thrashy
and dilapidated scenery, cheap video
theatrics, and a buffoon of a gorilla
African "Tribal Head," in a video shot
entirely in a village.
The ASA ought to ask if that video will
compel Cadbury employees, Ghanaian
nationals, and others, on a good family
day or outing, to sit down around a nice
fire, to enjoy "Cadbury chocolate." Will
they do it with their spouses, children,
and friends, as they watch that video?
More important, that despicable video
does not promote Ghana. It will not
compel people to tour Ghana. It is fair to
say that in 2009, that racist video will
never be sponsored by an
American-based company with national
reputation, less a global conglomerate.

ITEM: www.GhanaHero.com fully
supports Mr. Nii Armah Akomfrah, UK
branch of the Convention People's
Party, (CPP) and Mr. Toyin Agbetu, of
Ligali for their stance on the issue in the
United Kingdom.

It is bigotry, arrogance & racism!

Bishop, Rumbol, and Epworth are selling
bigotry. (Please read the 11 Oct 09
piece,  "
Cadbury accused of racial
stereotyping in chocolate advert:
Viewers complain about another
campaign two years after the firm's
ill-fated Trident commercial," by Ms.
Emily Dugan, with the UK-based The
Independent...

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (FOI) BILL -
GHANA NATION (2008)!
(Believe it or not - FOIB - this is the first song ever
written and recorded about the FOI / RTI bill / law!
Prof Lungu says....
Update: It's been reported that the Cabinet
of NDC government of Ghana has
received a draft of the FOI bill for
consideration - 16May09. (The NPP failed
for pass FOIB. Will the NDC? Does the
CPP stand a chance?

The Freedom of Information (FOI) bill is
required by any nation serious about
growing democracy and promoting
accountability of government. FOI bill (law)
allows everyone access to most
information held by government just by
asking: contracts; expenditures; hiring;
finances; polluted lands; timber
concessionaiares; ownership and custody
of resources owned by the people, etc.
The NPP government in Ghana proposed
a draft in 2003 and has failed to pass the
bill since then.

Many individuals and groups in Ghana are
working for passage of the FOI bill in
Ghana by the next government. We think
that the political party in Ghana that
provides a comprehensive program,
schedule, and other details to
institutionalize this good governance
mechanism for democracy and the rule of
law will deserve the support of all
Ghana-centered people.
Too much, too much, too much! Mr.
Politician, are you pickable?

Reaction to the advert on the
web has been mixed. A
protest video was posted on
YouTube by a Ghanaian living
in Japan called Professor
Lungu. The short film, called
"Cadbury Sponsors Foolish
African Tribal Monster Video",
features a list of criticisms of
the advert, the main one of
which accuses the advert of
"perpetuating sad and harmful
stereotyping of Africans".
